Hello everyone,
This week, we finally got some good news in what has felt like a very long time.
The Pro-Democracy Side is Winning
In New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, California, Mississippi and across the country, voters turned out at historic levels. From ballot propositions and school boards to state Supreme Courts and gubernatorial races, the pro-democracy side is winning and often beating expectations by huge margins.
In Virginia, voters elected Abigail Spanberger as Governor and Ghazala Hashmi as Lieutenant Governor by double digits, while also expanding the Democratic majority in the House of Delegates. Make no mistake these margins are a clear rejection of the Trump agenda.
The Fight in Our Own Backyard
These national victories are a vital backstop. But while we celebrate them, we cannot forget our own communities.
Here at home, our local election results were less exciting to mixed. Those who wish to push the Project 2025 and Trump agenda in our town governments and schools continue to make gains.
That's why we’re drawing particular focus to our local Democratic Committees (DTCs). These groups are on the front lines, and they need our support and input. This is how we get involved and make the same kind of change happening nation wide. Below are listed Seekonk and Rehoboth DTC meetings however, if you are not a resident of these towns we encourage you to seek out your town's committees and attend as well.
IFC is Evolving
This month, the board is convening to draft new bylaws, finalize our new donation platform, and restructure for maximum impact.
The new bylaws would simplify our structure by replacing the Steering Committee with "Board Members at Large." We are also forming two new, action-oriented subcommittees: one for Events and one for Outreach. This will make us more nimble and create more opportunities for members to get involved.
Supporting Our Community
Finally, we know these are difficult times for many, especially with the recent reduction in SNAP benefits and the approaching holiday season. Our group is exploring new ways to increase our community support.
